ET vs Yoda
A Game For the Ages

Everybody's favorite extraterrestrial
blew in for an intergalactic chess tournament.

As the visitor, ET was given the white pieces,
allowing him to be first

As the host, Yoda patient must be.

ET presses the attack,
pushing Yoda into a stall defense

With no play clock Yoda ponders
his next move for centuries,
hoping ET will his patience lose

So long did the game last
that the pieces on the board inter-married
and the bishops babbled
about "the geometry of innocent flesh on the bones"

Fifteen different species went extinct on planet Earth
still Yoda pondered what to do about his queen..

The game went on for ages,
which, of course, is why it's called
a game for the ages.
