I AM!

Lights and colors blazing in the gallery,
Cars outside
Whizzing by on rain soaked street,
A hissing crescendo
Buzzing above driving bass runs.
Speedway on a rainy day
And the thunder shouts “I am!”
A bus zooms by,
a blur of faces shouting

“I am!” in the nebulous afternoon.
Am I awake?………I am!
How real is real?……………..…. I am!
When I sleep at night
I visit various worlds-
Are they real?………………...… I am!
Is my sleeping body real?……… I am!
Rain is falling harder now,
Blurring what was clear.

Outside shadows hurry by, whispering i am!
Before a gray backdrop,
Images in a dream of major proportions.
I am The Creator’s daydream,
a bit part in the master plot;.
Improvisational theater extended to its existential extremity.

A couple of horns blare “I Am!” above the rhythms
of the boisterous boulevard;
announcing the Sun’s cameo appearance in the afternoon’s show.
Clouds are back now…
Raindrops falling
Like notes from Garcia’s guitar-
Musical magic painting pictures on my eyelids.

Stuck inside a polychrome cube,
Wandering Jews dripping from ceramic pots-
Hazy shapes define themselves
Inside the cube with radiant reds and oozing blues.

Gone are the days of red grenadine,
Tequila sunrises,
Pepto-Bismol skies
Dismal drunkard cries………………………”A Yam!”

Cannabis collages in smoky blue
The boys from San Francisco
Roll away the dew

In the end it’s only you
Who can say “I Am!”
