Game of Thrones
I finished reading Game of Thrones a couple days ago. I like that he spelled the title for knights "Ser," as it's pronounced. Instead of the way it's actually spelled which adds to what I think of as the graying of the vowels.
A non English speaker that hears about Burgundy &; wants to look in the dictionary would probably start with be, move on to bi, probably stop at bo, just in case, before realizing that that sound is spelled with a "u" in the case of Burgundy. American English is very licentious when it comes to the sounds associated with the different vowels. George RR Martin has done a good thing in taking a step, small though it may be, in reversing that.

My Spanish half wants to point to the bilingual pun that spelling the title "Ser" creates. Ser is the infinitive of the verb for being, to be (or not to be). Sir Walter Scott, using Martin's spelling is Ser Walter Scott &; in Spanish, that means Being Walter Scott.
As if there weren't enough words in the book, I find myself now swimming in words inspired by those words.
"In the autumn of my madness when my hair is turning grey
when the milk has finally curdled and I've nothing left to say
When all my thoughts are spoken (save my last departing birds)
bring all my friends unto me and I'll strangle them with words"
